No matter how you slice it, there are lots of empty housing units out there. The Census Bureau’s quarterly reports on housing vacancies and homeownership offer details on the size and characteristics of the nation’s stock of vacant housing units. While at this point it is no secret that the housing market remains in the grips of a severe inventory overhang, the Census reports nonetheless shed some light on the size and the composition of that overhang have changed over time.
