> Window On the Economy, June 2009Sure, The Recession Will End, But Then What? Recent weeks have seen a change in the tone of much of the regular economic data. The rate of monthly job losses is slowing, there are signs that residential construction,at least single family, and home sales are stabilizing, consumer confidence has moved up from what were rock bottom levels, consumer spending, while mixed in recent months, is no longer registering the types of deep declines seen over the second half of 2008, and the ISM manufacturing index has moved off its cyclical low. To be sure, residential construction and home sales are stabilizing at extraordinarily low levels, uncertainty related to the auto industry weighs on the manufacturing sector, and while higher, consumer onfidence remains entrenched in recessionary territory, reflecting still-cautious consumers. © Mission Residential.
